Destination Introduction

Taoyukou Reservoir is located in Shangyuan Township at the junction of eastern Changping and Shunyi, about 40 kilometers from downtown Beijing. Compared to Beijing’s famous Miyun, Guanting, and Huairou reservoirs, it is not particularly large, but it has gradually gained fame in the capital for its abundant aquatic produce. Truly, “It’s not the size of the water that matters, but the fish within.”

Taoyukou Reservoir was completed in July 1960 and began flood control operations in August 1963. A total of 324,000 cubic meters of earth and stone were used in its construction. The reservoir covers a total area of 1.05 million square meters, with a breeding area of 600,000 square meters. It has a total storage capacity of 10.08 million cubic meters and controls a catchment area of 40 square kilometers. The reservoir features one main dam, three auxiliary dams (east, south, and west), as well as a spillway and water conveyance pipes. The main dam is 21 meters high with a crest length of 320 meters. Cage farming is practiced on the water surface, yielding an annual fish production of 100,000 kilograms.

Backed by the Yanshan Mountains, Taoyukou Reservoir boasts picturesque scenery where mountains meet water. Over ten types of fish are raised in the reservoir, including carp, grass carp, and silver carp. Fishing enthusiasts can bring their fishing rods here to enjoy the beautiful natural landscape while also having the chance to catch something. The reservoir’s thousand-acre water surface is suitable not only for fishing but also for various other water activities.
