The former office site of Liu Ying in Datun

On January 3, 1938, Liu Ying led the temporary provincial committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Fujian-Zhejiang border areas to relocate from Fenglin Village in Feng’ao Township to Datun Village in Shanmen Township (now part of Shanmen Town). During this period, Liu Ying lived in the left rear half of the room at the residence of Zheng Yongsheng in the southeast of Datun Village. This place was also where Su Yu and Zeng Shan stayed when they were in Datun. Su Yu once lived in the front half of the room, but later moved to Longjing Nunnery for work convenience; Zeng Shan had lived in the front half of the room previously occupied by Su Yu. In Datun Village, Liu Ying spent most of his time working at a traditional eight-immortal table. Due to the cold weather and the lack of door panels—only bamboo mats were used to block the wind—he often built a small charcoal fire under the table to keep warm. After long-term exposure to the charcoal fire, one large hole was scorched into the tabletop. In his spare time, Liu Ying often wrote poetry and covered the walls with revolutionary verses. In the spring of 1938, the temporary provincial committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Fujian-Zhejiang border areas held the third military-political cadre training class here, with lectures given personally by Liu Ying. After Zeng Shan arrived in Datun, Liu Ying and Su Yu reported in detail to him about the work in the base area and the status of the troops, and discussed with him the reorganization of the troops and the march northward to fight in the War of Resistance.

The former office site of Liu Ying in Datun is located within the residence of Zheng Yongsheng in Datun Village, Shanmen Town, Pingyang County.

The former office site of Liu Ying in Datun is part of the National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Area—the Zhejiang South (Pingyang) Revolutionary Base Site Cluster—and is a national patriotic education base.
