Site of the Heqi Talks

On February 25, 1945, leaders of the Yueqing County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, including Qiu Qinghua, Zhou Peizhen, Ye Lingyin, and Zheng Meixin, along with Zheng Lun, head of the Shanmian District Committee, and Chen Ji and Wang Minggao, the captain and deputy captain of the Fourth Police Squadron, held talks at the home of Lu Lianxiang in Heqi Village, about five li from Hongqiao Town. The county leaders proposed to confiscate the weapons of the Yueqing County Self-Defense Corps and announce the uprising of the "Fourth Police Squadron." During the meeting, Wang Minggao initially had some concerns but soon agreed; Chen Ji, however, was full of doubts, hesitant and indecisive, swaying back and forth. But after repeated explanations of the situation by the county leaders, he finally reluctantly agreed. The meeting decided that Wang Minggao would invite the commander of the Self-Defense Corps, Wu Kun, to a banquet at Datong Hospital in Hongqiao that evening under the pretext of discussing defense arrangements, and detain him during the meal, then compel him to surrender the weapons of his unit while also announcing the uprising of the "Fourth Police Squadron." That afternoon, Ye Lingyin accompanied Wang Minggao to Hongqiao to carry out the plan. Zheng Lun went to Niutang in Sidu to notify Lin Hexiang, Huang Yitao, Chen Dahai, and others to lead the anti-Japanese guerrilla forces to ambush behind Fahui Temple on the mountain near Xiaoshun Bridge near Hongqiao, in order to contain the actions of the Second Squadron, and to mobilize party members, militia, and civilians to gather in Hongqiao the next day. After the meeting, everyone carried out their plans accordingly, and the Hongqiao Uprising was successfully achieved.

The Site of the Heqi Talks is located in Heqi Village, Shibei Town, Yueqing City. The Lu residence was built in the mid-Qing Dynasty. The main house is a single-story wooden structure with five bays, featuring typical architectural characteristics of traditional southern Zhejiang residences. This building is a two-story wooden structure, facing south with the entrance to the north, consisting of a gate tower, wing rooms, and side rooms. The site is well-preserved and holds significant cultural heritage value.
