Wanqiao Revolutionary Monument Park
Wanqiao Village is located in the central plain area of Yueqing City, surrounded by the Wanqiao River on its east, south, and north sides. Across the river to the south of the village lies a five-arch stone bridge — the Wanqiao Bridge. Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, this bridge has a history of over 900 years and serves as a key transportation hub. The branch of the Chinese Communist Party in Wanqiao Village was established in the autumn of 1938, and three underground communication posts were set up successively, two of which were established during the Anti-Japanese War and served as important red communication hubs within the Hongqiao area. By 1947, after enduring intense struggles, the party branch had grown significantly, with over 20 party members in the village, leading to the establishment of the Wanqiao Women’s Branch. By the time of liberation, the village had a total of 34 party members. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, over 30 villagers from Wanqiao joined the guerrilla forces, nine of whom sacrificed their lives in battle. Revolutionary figures in the village repeatedly coordinated actions with higher authorities, making significant contributions to the revolutionary cause.
Wanqiao Revolutionary Monument Park is located in Wanqiao No. 1 Village, Tiancheng Township, Yueqing City. To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs and document the village's revolutionary struggle history, the park was officially opened on October 1, 2009. Covering an area of approximately 4,260 square meters, the park features a 100-meter-long corridor built along the bank of the Xiaolong Harbor, housing 50 bluestone tablets. Among them, two large stone slabs are inscribed with phrases such as “Water and stone retain great achievements, virtues speak of forebears.” The tablets are divided into three sections: the first section details the revolutionary struggle history of Wanqiao; the second commemorates the nine martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the revolutionary struggle in Wanqiao, as well as individuals who made outstanding contributions to the revolution; and the third introduces notable figures and scholars from Wanqiao during the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
