Site of the Training Class for Cadres Held by the Taiwan Regional Special Committee Headquarters

The site of the training class for cadres held by the Taiwan Regional Special Committee headquarters is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.

Since the start of underground struggle, the situation in Taizhou had been deteriorating. In July 1940, the Taiwan Regional Special Committee headquarters moved to conceal itself in the area around Furong, Yueqing. The committee restructured the Furong District Committee into a directly subordinate district committee, with Qiu Kangfu appointed as the district party secretary. At the same time, it was decided to hold a cadre training class at Nanshan’an in Shanmian Township. Wang Huaiqiu, head of the Propaganda Department of the Taiwan Regional Special Committee, and Yang Gan, head of the Propaganda Department of Yueqing County Committee, served as instructors. Most of the trainees were personnel withdrawn from the “Political Work Teams.” After the training, some participants were assigned to leadership positions within the regional administration.

The site of the training class for cadres held by the Taiwan Regional Special Committee headquarters is located at Nanshan’an Village, Lingdi Township, Yueqing City, in the “Nanshan’an” temple. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, part of the temple structure was allocated to local poor residents, and another part was retained for use as a school. Around the 1980s, the temple collapsed, leading to relocation of its residents. The school building became vacant due to the reconstruction of the primary school and subsequent school consolidation. The site features a favorable natural environment, with remnants of a section of the “Nanshan’an” wall still preserved. In front of the site, there is a bamboo grove and a small path leading to Zeji Village, lined with shady trees on both sides.
