Former Site of the Taizhou Special Committee Relocating to Zeji Village

The Former Site of the Taizhou Special Committee Relocating to Zeji Village is a classic red tourism attraction.

In November 1940, the headquarters of the Taizhou Special Committee moved back to Taizhou. That winter, the Provincial Committee decided to establish the Oujiang Special Committee and placed the Yueqing County Committee under its leadership, while also making major adjustments to the leadership of the Yueqing County Committee: Qiu Qinghua was appointed as the County Committee Secretary, Qiu Kangfu as the Organization Minister, and the former County Committee Secretary Zheng Meidi was transferred to serve as a member of the Oujiang Special Committee, still stationed in Yueqing to guide the Party work in both Yueqing and Yuhuan counties.

On May 1, 1941, Japanese invaders withdrew from Wenzhou, and the Oujiang Special Committee was announced dissolved. The Yueqing County Committee sent Qiu Kangfu to Xianju to locate Liu Qingyang, Secretary of the Taizhou Special Committee, and re-established contact with the Taizhou Special Committee in July. In September, Liu Qingyang relocated the Special Committee headquarters to areas such as Zeji in Shanmian Township (now Lingdi Township), Yueqing. In October, Zhou Peizhen escaped from the Shangrao Concentration Camp and returned to Yueqing, taking on the role of secretary responsible for the security and logistics of the Special Committee headquarters. Later, due to the exposure of the location of the Special Committee headquarters in Zeji Village, Zhou Peizhen led the Special Committee personnel to relocate to Yan’gang, 10 li away from the village, for concealment. In February 1942, the Secretary of the Provincial Committee was arrested in Wenzhou, leading to the destruction of the Provincial Committee headquarters, after which the Taizhou Special Committee headquarters withdrew to Huangyan.

The Former Site of the Taizhou Special Committee Relocating to Zeji Village is located in Zeji Village, Lingdi Township, Yueqing City. This site consists of an old wooden house that was burned down by stubborn Kuomintang forces in 1945. The current structure was rebuilt in the early years of the People’s Republic of China on the ruins.
