Former Site of the Establishment of the Yongle People’s Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Guerrilla Corps

In February 1945, the Leping County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party led the Hongqiao Uprising, and the Ou’bei County Committee also launched the Yubei Uprising the following month, marking a new phase of armed anti-Japanese resistance in the Ou’bei region of southern Zhejiang. To unify the efforts of Leping and Ou’bei counties and expand their operational scope, the CPC Southern Zhejiang Special Committee decided on March 30, 1945 to establish the CPC Ou’bei Central County Committee, with Hu Jing? serving as acting secretary, and Yu Longgui and Qiu Qinghua as members. At the same time, the armed forces of the two counties were merged into the Yongle People’s Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Guerrilla Corps, with Yu Longgui as commander, Hu Jing? as political commissar, Zhou Pixian as deputy commander, and Qiu Qinghua as head of the political department. The corps consisted of nine squads, seven from Leping and two from Ou’bei. Later, Ou’bei expanded by two additional squads, bringing the total to eleven squads with 700 troops and weapons. Throughout its revolutionary journey, the Yongle People’s Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Guerrilla Corps persisted in the struggle amid complex conflicts with Japanese forces, puppet troops, and diehard Kuomintang factions, becoming a key anti-Japanese force in southern Zhejiang and making significant contributions to the national independence and people’s liberation of southern Zhejiang and Kuocang regions.

The Former Site of the Establishment of the Yongle People’s Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Guerrilla Corps is located in Zeji Village, Lingdi Township, Yueqing City. Before liberation, this site was the most architecturally prominent house in Zeji Village. It was burned down by diehard Kuomintang forces in 1945 and rebuilt in the early years of the People’s Republic.
