Stone Carving Screen Wall

The Stone Carving Screen Wall is a cultural relic protection unit of Yueqing City.

The Stone Carving Screen Wall is located in Dianhou Village, Huanghua Town, Yueqing City. The entire structure is made of stone, standing 2.7 meters high and 2.47 meters wide. The front side features a carving of a lion holding a sword, alongside an inscription in regular script reading “Erected in the winter month of the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign (1817),” as well as a five-character regulated verse: “Heaven sent down a divine lion, chasing the ball across the eastern sea. Its body flips with colored fur, its eyes glare with boundless might. Its roar shakes a thousand mountains, its breath summons the wind of a single sword. Lifting its head, it startles all beasts, forever immortalized in this stone screen.” On both sides, a matching couplet is carved: “When clouds part, the sun mirrors the ball’s bright hue; when water meets wind, the sword rings clear.” The back side depicts a carp transforming into a dragon— a carp leaping upward with its head raised, rendered vividly and true to life.
