Martyrs' Cemetery of Yandang Mountain

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Yandang Mountain is a cultural relic protection unit of Yueqing City.

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Yandang Mountain is located at the southern foot of Lion Peak in the Yandang Mountain Scenic Area, Yueqing City. It was built in 1953 to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War. Covering an area of about 10,000 square meters, the lintel of the main gate bears a horizontal plaque inscribed with "Martyrs' Cemetery of Yandang Mountain" by Su Yu. The cemetery includes three types of burial methods: coffin burials, urn burials, and columbarium burials, and it houses the remains of 402 martyrs. On the cliff behind the cemetery are engraved the four characters "Sacrificed for the Country" written by Mao Zedong. In front of the tomb chamber stands a tall memorial stele inscribed with "Revolutionary Martyrs of Yandang Mountain," which was calligraphed by General Zhang Aiping. The base of the stele contains an epitaph erected by the Yueqing County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the People's Government, written by the renowned calligrapher Ma Gongyu. Surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, the site is majestic and solemn. Guo Moruo praised it in his poem "Ode to Yandang Mountain": "Glorious martyrs’ tomb, scenery of the finest kind."
