Pianlong Archway

Pianlong Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Yueqing City.

Pianlong Archway is located in Zhelake Village, Dajing Town, Yueqing City. The *Wenzhou Prefecture Records* from the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era states: “The Pianlong Archway was erected in honor of Jinshi examinee Lian Ji.” It features a wooden and stone structure with a double-eaved, hip-and-gable roof. The archway has six pillars (with one additional pillar added in front and behind each of the two central uprights to support the overhanging eaves), and is a single-bay structure. The arch stands 6.2 meters high, is 6.4 meters wide, and 3.2 meters deep. The brickwork features a clear-water ridge adorned with dragon head ornaments at both ends and a mountain-cloud motif in the center. The roof is covered with cylindrical tiles, and the tile ends are stamped with patterns including vermilion birds, chrysanthemums, and floral designs.

The front plaque of the archway bears the inscription “Pianlong” (Climbing Dragon), while the back reads “Imperial Edict.” Originally erected in the 23rd year of the Ming Jiajing era (1544), it was later destroyed. Although the plaques were inscribed by later generations, the main structure retains the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty.
