Cliff Inscriptions at Dongshiliang Cave

The Cliff Inscriptions at Dongshiliang Cave are a cultural relic protection unit of Yueqing City.

The Cliff Inscriptions at Dongshiliang Cave are located in Yandang Mountain, Yueqing City. Dongshiliang Cave, also known as Shihong Cave, had a temple built in front of it as early as the second year of the Qingli era (1042) during the Song Dynasty. Today, the cave preserves 14 cliff inscriptions. Among them are those from the seventh year of the Jiayou era (1062) by Li Fugui of the Zhejiang Transport Commission, the Jiajing era imperial censor Xiao Yizhong, the eleventh year of the Jiajing era (1532) by magistrate Wu Zixiao, and the thirty-eighth year of the Jiajing era (1559) by Shiliang Mountain resident Wu Zongjia. Particularly precious is Wu Zongjia’s “Shiliang Fort Chronicle Stele,” which records: “This year in March, the Wokou [Japanese pirates] raided □□ village houses and the Righteous Tower. All were reported to the provincial administration, the pacification commission, and the county authorities, who ordered donations to build a fort to prepare for defense.”
