Da Ji Shuang Men Bridge

Shuang Men Bridge is located on the Ji Creek in Da Ji Village, Songyuan Town, Qingyuan. It is a wooden arch covered bridge, measuring 11.15 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width, and was first built in 1049. The two sons of Wu Chongxu, the founding ancestor of Da Ji—Wu ?b and Wu Gu—both passed the imperial examination and became jinshi in the second year of the Tian Sheng era (1024) and the first year of the Jing You era (1034) of the Song Dynasty, respectively. Within ten years, the brothers both achieved the honor of having their names inscribed on the Wild Goose Pagoda, an event celebrated as “a family with two jinshi.” With imperial approval, the local people built this covered bridge to commemorate the glorious occasion. As the bridge house features double gate towers, and the bridge is connected to and flanked by ceremonial archways, it is also known as “Twin Laurels Linked by Archways.”
