The Lantern Festival is a major traditional holiday in Taiwan. Some locals consider the festival the real end of the Lunar New Year celebrations, often referred to as the "Little New Year." During the Lantern Festival each year, diverse celebratory activities such as lantern displays, sky lantern releases, riddle guessing, and bee-hornet firecracker shows are held across Taiwan to celebrate the festive occasion. The 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival integrated events such as the Taipei Lantern Festival, Kaohsiung Lantern Festival & Arts Festival, Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in New Taipei City, Hsinpu Beehive Rockets in Miaoli, Yanshui Beehive Fireworks in Tainan, and the Flying Horse God Parade in Taitung. Through integrated marketing and packaging, the event attracted both domestic and international visitors, becoming a globally recognized celebration.
