Yonggui Bridge

Yonggui Bridge, located in Qingyuan County, is one of the area’s five famous ancient bridges. Its name comes from the Analects of Confucius, “Advanced”: “Bathe in the Yi River, breeze on the dance altar, and sing on the way home,” which indeed sounds quite poetic.

The bridge has a history of over 500 years, having been first built during the Yuan Dynasty. It features the typical appearance of a wooden arched covered bridge and has withstood fires and floods, leaving only the left half of the bridge, which rests on a stone turtle, in its original form. It has since undergone multiple restorations to become what it is today.

The current bridge has a two-story structure with double eaves on the eastern side and a pavilion on the western bridge abutment, combining the elements of a pavilion, terrace, tower, and loft. The covered walkway consists of eight bays with a double hip-and-gable roof, presenting an elegant and refined design.
