Guodong Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Guodong Scenic Area is nestled among secluded mountains and ridges, about 10 kilometers from Wuyi County in Zhejiang Province. It earned its name because the surrounding mountains form a natural barrier like a city wall (“Guo”), and the tranquil, cave-like surroundings (“Dong”). Within its approximately 5-square-kilometer area, the landscape features undulating peaks, lush bamboo and forests, offering a serene and elegant atmosphere. “The scenery outside the wall rivals the North Star, while the splendor within the cave reflects the southern hills”—this ancient verse aptly depicts the beauty of Guodong Scenic Area.

The Aofeng Tower, standing atop Aoyu Mountain outside Guodong Village in Wuyi, Zhejiang, is 14.5 meters tall and was built in the 43rd year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty

(1778 AD). The Guodong water outlet, where mountain and water vistas converge and mysterious landscapes unfold, is adorned with over 80 ancient trees planted during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. These trees densely line both inside and outside the ancient city wall, exuding a profound historical charm. The HuiLong Bridge to the east of the wall was first built in the Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt during the Longqing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1567–1572 AD). This stone bridge features a pavilion on top, making it a highly attractive leisure and sightseeing spot. To the east of the bridge, at the foot of Longshan Mountain, lies the Hailin Temple built in the late Ming Dynasty, which houses a statue of Guan Yu and murals. The peaks of Longshan Mountain pierce the clouds, and within its hundred-acre ancient forest, mist swirls amid the trees while cicadas chirp and birds sing, creating an enchantingly mystical atmosphere. To the south of the village is Baquan Rock, one of Wuyi’s renowned “Ten Scenic Spots of Wuyang.” When you climb to the summit of Lion Head Mountain and gaze upon the spectacular array of peaks, you’ll feel a refreshing breeze on your shoulders, as if wandering through a celestial realm. The Baquan Temple on Baquan Rock, initially built during the Ming Dynasty, serves not only as a sacred Buddhist site for worshippers within a radius of dozens of miles but also once housed the camp of the Red Army’s Wuyi South Battalion. The Baquan spring at the mountaintop and the Zhangquan spring at the foot of Hu Shan Mountain never dry up in drought nor overflow in flood. Their waters remain cool in summer and warm in winter, inspiring poetic verses from notable figures throughout history. The He Clan Ancestral Hall is a representative among Guodong’s over 20 Ming and Qing dynasty ancient buildings. The grand and imposing structure boasts an elegant and rustic ancient stage inside. Plaques hanging from the beams showcase the area’s legacy of exceptional people and spiritual energy. In the backyard grows a centuries-old podocarpus tree, the same age as the hall, with a magnificent canopy—considered a rare and precious ancient tree in the province.

Guodong Scenic Area integrates landscapes such as mountains and waters, ancient forests, old bridges and pavilions, ancient temples, and historic city walls, attracting several film studios to shoot exteriors here. Adjacent to the Wuyi Hot Spring Tourism Resort, the development of the resort has also spurred the construction of Guodong Scenic Area. With its rich cultural strength, Guodong Scenic Area welcomes visitors from all directions with even more perfect scenery and service offerings.
