Zhongxiao Hall was the former residence of Xu Pinghu, a famous anti-Wokou general of the Ming Dynasty. Xu Pinghu, courtesy name Shian, was a native of Wuyi. During the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, he was commended for his meritorious service in resisting the Wokou. He petitioned for his father’s pardon, and the court, recognizing his achievements, released his father and bestowed upon the hall the name “Zhongxiao Hall.”

Zhongxiao Hall is located at No. 297, Hushan Upper Street. Built in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty, it faces north and consists of three courtyards and wing rooms on both sides. The first courtyard building is a hall with a width of three bays and a depth of three bays, featuring a flush gable roof and a five-rafter beam structure with double steps at the front and rear. The second courtyard building has a width of three bays and a depth of four bays, using a post-and-lintel beam structure. The third courtyard building is seven bays wide and five bays deep, representing a typical upper-floor hall design.

Zhongxiao Hall serves as an important site for commemorating the anti-Wokou general Xu Pinghu. Constructed in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty, the architectural features of its pillars and beams display distinct characteristics of the period. It is a rare example of a Ming Dynasty hall building and provides significant physical evidence for the study of ancient architecture in the Jinhua-Quzhou region.
