Wuyi Dagongshan Site

Located to the south of Dagongshan Village, Datian Township, Wuyi County. As early as the 1980s, local villagers unearthed stone artifacts such as distinctly chiseled stone balls while digging soil on the hill for brick kilns, sparking rumors in the area that “treasures” were buried on Dagongshan. In 1994, carbonized rice grains, reportedly over 10 centimeters thick, were found in the middle of the hill. In 2010, researcher Jiang Leping from the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted exploratory excavations at the Dagongshan Site. In multiple excavation squares, they unearthed stone balls, stone clubs, and fragments of carbon-tempered red pottery, dating the site to between 7,000 and 10,000 years ago. At the same time, traces of ancient kiln sites were found in the stratified layers of a mechanized farming road. The Dagongshan Site is the earliest known human activity relic discovered in Wuyi County to date and holds significant value for cultural heritage preservation.
