Yuying Pagoda

Yuying Pagoda is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Yuying Pagoda is located in Baiyang Subdistrict, Wuyi County, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Yuying Pagoda is a well-preserved Ming-era feng shui pagoda. Standing on Catfish Hill, Yuying Pagoda faces Mingzhao Mountain from afar and was built slightly earlier than the Fabao Xianglong Pagoda on Tashan in downtown Wuyi.

Wan Shi Yuan Pagoda, also known as Yuying Pagoda, is located in Wan Shi Yuan Village, Baiyang Subdistrict, Wuyi County, Jinhua City. The pagoda was built in the 21st year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty (1573). It is a hollow brick structure with six sides and seven tiers, standing about twenty meters tall. Each face of the pagoda has windows, and its facade tapers slightly from bottom to top. The eaves on each tier are formed by alternating flat bricks and dentils. The pagoda’s top is built with layered bricks that step inward, while the base has an arched doorway. The pedestal is made of stone and shaped like a drum-shaped Sumeru pedestal, with high-relief carvings of floral patterns such as lotus and ruyi motifs along the waistband—detailed and well-preserved. With a majestic and dignified appearance, and a simple, rustic design, it is a classic example of a feng shui pagoda with local stylistic features. The interior is hollow, and it originally had a spiral wooden staircase leading to the top for viewing the surrounding landscape. The staircase and finial no longer exist, but the external structure remains intact, preserving the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty. It serves as an important physical example for studying the transition from double-sleeve to hollow structures in pagoda architecture during the Ming and Qing periods in Zhejiang, holding significant historical, social, and scientific value. In March 1981, the pagoda was designated as a Wuyi County-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and in January 2017, Yuying Pagoda was listed as part of the seventh batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Baiyang Subdistrict: Established in September 2001 following an administrative division adjustment, Baiyang Subdistrict in Wuyi County shares its office space with the Administrative Committee of Wuyi Economic Development Zone, Zhejiang Province. Located in the eastern part of Wuyi County, it is a prime area for urban development. The subdistrict houses a railway station and is connected by Provincial Highway 44 and the expressway link to the Jinhua–Lishui–Wenzhou Expressway, offering convenient transportation, ample water and electricity supply, well-developed communications, and complete infrastructure. Its unique locational advantages, combined with the splendid Mingzhao culture, provide a solid foundation for further industrial agglomeration in Baiyang, advancing urbanization, building a culturally rich county, and achieving extraordinary leapfrog development.
