Huzhou Jinshan Temple is located in Hongqi Village, Daxi Town, Huzhou City, at the southern edge of the Mogan Mountain Range. It is a popular summer retreat known for being free of mosquitoes year-round. Historical records from the Huzhou Prefecture Chronicles state that Jinshan Temple was the practice site of Daoxuan, the founding patriarch of the Southern Mountain School of the Vinaya School, situated where Hongshantou in Hongqi Village, Daxi Town, Huzhou City stands today. Though damaged by wars, it was spared by divine favor and is currently under reconstruction. The temple is built against the mountain and currently features ongoing construction of structures such as the “Merit Forest,” “Thousand Buddha Hall,” and “Bodhi Cultivation Monastery.” Covering a vast area, historical accounts suggest that at its peak, Jinshan Temple was so expansive it earned the title “Ten-Thousand-Mu Jinshan Temple,” attracting throngs of pilgrims amid drifting incense and mist, with monks rigorously studying the precepts. The great monk Jianzhen once visited to study the vinaya under Daoxuan and spoke highly of the place. Truly, it is an extraordinary and sacred site.

Hongqi Village: Hongqi Village is located in the western mountainous area of Daxi Town, Wuxing District. It lies 11 kilometers from National Highway 104 in Daxi Town, bordering Laohutan to the east, Mogan Mountain to the south, Anji to the west, and Meifeng to the north. The village administers four natural villages: Nanwu, Shilang, Dacheng, and Zhenshui, comprising a total of 32 villager groups. It was established in 2002 following an administrative division adjustment, covering an administrative area of 15.7 square kilometers. The village has 22,932 mu of forest, 1,683 mu of arable land, and 839 mu of tea and fruit orchards. It currently has 756 households with a total population of 2,971.
