Ciyun Pagoda is a cultural tourism attraction.

Guide: Ciyun Pagoda was first built in the third year of the Chiwu era (238–251 AD). Legend has it that during the Three Kingdoms period, after Sun Quan deceived his wife Lady Sun Shangxiang into returning to the Eastern Wu kingdom, the Empress Dowager had the pagoda constructed so that the princess could climb it and gaze westward along the Shu Road, expressing her endless longing—hence the legend of the “Gazing-for-Husband Pagoda.” Description: The pagoda has a hexagonal shape with five levels, built from a combination of brick and wood, and consists of pagoda walls, corridors, and a central core. The fourth and fifth levels of the pagoda feature nanmu (Phoebe nanmu) pivot columns that run straight through to the top. At sunset, visitors can climb the pagoda to enjoy panoramic views—northward to Lake Taihu (Dongting) and southward to Maxi Creek. This scene is celebrated as one of the “Eight Scenic Views of Zhenze,” known as “Ciyun Pagoda at Sunset.” The pagoda was built before the temple. Ciyun Temple was first established during the Xianchun era of the Song Dynasty, and although it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, only the Ciyun Pagoda remains from the original structure. It is now a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province. Transportation: Located to the east of Zhenze Town, the pagoda is within walking distance once you arrive in town. Zhenze is 90 km from Shanghai, 54 km from Suzhou, 45 km from Huzhou, and 90 km from Hangzhou. Both National Highway 318 and the under-construction Shanghai-Huzhou Expressway pass north of the town, while a branch of the Grand Canal, the Tang River, runs through the town area, providing very convenient water and land transportation. Buses from Shanghai’s Hutai Road Bus Station to Huzhou pass through Zhenze, with many daily departures. From Shanghai’s Zhongshan North Road No. 1015 Bus Long-Distance Passenger Station, there are direct buses to Zhenze at 07:55 and 12:30. Buses heading toward Wujiang from Suzhou’s North Bus Station also pass through Zhenze.

Zhenze Town: A water town in the Jiangnan region—Zhenze is located in the southwestern part of Wujiang District, Jiangsu Province, bordering Zhejiang Province.
