Wujiang Songling Park

Songling Park is situated to the east of Wujiang District, originally near the former Chuihong Bridge. It covers an area of 1.85 hectares with a green space rate of 71% and is a municipal-level comprehensive small park. Established in 1933, the park was fully restored after the reform and opening-up period with strong government support. Today, it includes artificial water features, mounds, pavilions, gazebos, winding corridors, towers, as well as a children's playground. The landscape is thoughtfully arranged, with varied elevations, lush greenery, and a beautiful environment that caters to visitors of all ages.

Wujiang Park, often referred to as Songling Park because it is located in Songling Town in the urban area of Wujiang, is a modern park built with funds raised by local gentry during the Republican era. In 1934 (the 23rd year of the Republic of China), the park was planned on Qiyang Mountain near the east gate inside the county town. It was constructed in three phases and included structures such as the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Xilou (Rest Pavilion), and the Four-Sided Hall. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese invaders damaged the park. After the liberation, the People’s Government renovated the park and added many valuable trees. However, it suffered further damage during the Cultural Revolution.

Starting in 1981, Songling Park underwent gradual restoration. Now, Wujiang Park features lush greenery, serene winding paths, and pavilions and water gazebos situated along ponds or on Qiyang Mountain, making it a beautifully maintained open park.

Wujiang Park also offers amenities for residents, including an ice-skating rink, tea house, and a children’s playground. The original memorial monument for Qian Digen (1887–1927, a native of Songling Town, Wujiang, who was arrested and executed in Shanghai’s Longhua after being captured while participating in the Northern Expedition by going undercover in Shanghai) has also been restored. The inscription on the monument was written by Liu Yazi, making it a historically significant Republican-era relic in Wujiang.

Taihu New City (Songling Subdistrict): The administrative region of Songling Subdistrict consists of 10 neighborhood committees from the former Songling Town — Xitang, Beimen, Luxiang Village No. 3, Luxiang Village No. 2, Dongmen, Chengzhong, Shili, Xiyuanwei, Meishi, and Xiangtai — as well as five village committees — NanShe, Jiangxin, Nanliu, Second Fisheries, and Qianggang — plus nine neighborhood committees from the former Binhu Subdistrict — Aolin Qinghua, Shuixiang, Xinyuan, Suhé, Hubin Huacheng, Longhe, Shuixiu, Changban, and Dongmei — and seven village committees — Changan, Ludang, Bula, Liantuan, Gaoxin, Wumo, and Meili.
