Wujiang Tianchi Ecological Park

Originally known as "Huangtianchi" (Desolate Tianchi), Tianchi Cultural Ecological Park is nestled in the southwest corner of Tongluo Community, Taoyuan Town. Surrounded by water on all sides, it covers an area of over 500 acres, nearly 200 of which are water surface, and boasts a history of more than 2,500 years. A local legend tells of King Fuchai of Wu hiding warships here: during the Spring and Autumn Period, the Tongluo area was located at the border between the states of Wu and Yue. To defend against attacks from Yue, King Fuchai excavated 72 and a half hidden coves on the islands in the pool to conceal his warships, constructing defensive structures called "Ship-Hiding Piers" to guard against invasions and surprise enemy strikes. This site is now what we know as Tianchi Cultural Ecological Park.

As time passed and landscapes transformed, Tianchi Cultural Ecological Park has quietly stood watch for over 2,500 years. Today, the clear waters of the island pool are surrounded by lush flowers, rare plants, the songs of birds, and the flight of fish and waterfowl competing in the spring. The park is encircled by water, with water and land areas spanning over 300,000 square meters. The 72 and a half coves crisscross to form shapes resembling the Chinese characters for “fortune” (福) and “longevity” (寿). This pristine ecological pool is a green gem within the unparalleled 35,000-acre ecological base on the East China Plain.

Currently under development, the "Tianchi Ecological Park" integrates the display of Wu-Yue culture, eco-tourism and sightseeing, exploration of pristine wilderness, and folk entertainment from southern Jiangsu. It’s an ideal destination for leisure vacations, tranquil forest walks, bird-watching and water activities, and experiencing local traditions.

Transportation: Take a bus to Taoyuan Town within Wujiang District, then transfer to a minibus or rent a boat to Huangtianchi.
