Shenxiu Hall in Tongli

Shenxiu Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Wujiang District.

Shenxiu Hall (No. 97 Dongxi Street). Located on the new embankment, this hall was built during the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty (1851–1861), facing south with its back to the north, and consists of four courtyards. The first and second courtyards are single-story buildings with five bays each; the second courtyard is 13.78 meters wide and 6.16 meters deep. The third and fourth courtyards are five-bay two-story buildings. From the second courtyard onward, each has a rear courtyard; originally, there were gate towers at each entrance, adorned with brick carvings of calligraphy, paintings, and figures, all of which were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Currently, only two stone slabs remain beneath the first gate tower. The lower parts of the brick pillars under the latter two gate towers, along with the stone slabs above and below them, still exist, but the upper historic elements are gone. The original third gate tower bore four characters reading “Dai Sou Yi Mou.” To the east of the third gate tower, there is a flower stand planted with heavenly bamboo. In September 1986, Shenxiu Hall was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic controlled unit of Wujiang.
