The Maode Hall in Zhenze

The Maode Hall in Zhenze is a cultural heritage site protected by Suzhou Municipality.

The Maode Hall in Zhenze is located at No. 28 Bao Ta Street, Zhenze Town, Wujiang District, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

It was built by a local silk merchant surnamed Bi during the late Qing period and served as the former site of the “Bi Wanmao Silk Thread and Yarn Firm.” The hall faces south and features a main structure consisting of four courtyards, with the first three being two-story buildings: the first courtyard functions as an entrance hall; the second courtyard is the main hall, which was the business area of the silk firm, featuring a brick-carved gate tower on its southern wall; the third courtyard is an inner hall, with wing rooms on the east, west, and south sides of the central courtyard; the fourth courtyard consists of single-story buildings.
