The Five-Pavilion Bridge is a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Five-Pavilion Bridge is located in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. Built in the 22nd year of the Qianlong reign (1757), it was modeled after the Five-Dragon Pavilions and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge in Beijing’s Beihai Park. “Five pavilions stand above, four wing-like structures below, with a total of fifteen bridge openings on the facade and sides.” Its architectural style embodies the gracefulness of the south and the grandeur of the north. On a Mid-Autumn night, you can experience the marvelous scene described as “moonlight reflected in the rippling waters from all angles, cloud-shadows drifting through each arch, and the sound of a fair maiden’s flute under the night sky.”

The Five-Pavilion Bridge is the iconic structure of Slender West Lake. Its most distinctive feature is the perfect harmony of feminine grace and masculine strength, as well as the seamless blend of southern elegance and northern grandeur. Modeled after the Five-Dragon Pavilions and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge in Beijing’s Beihai Park, “five pavilions stand above, four wing-like structures below, with a total of fifteen bridge openings on the facade and sides.” The bridge was constructed on Lotus Embankment and was built in the 22nd year of the Qianlong reign (1757) by Salt Inspector Gao Heng and Yangzhou salt merchants to welcome Emperor Qianlong. Because it is situated on Lotus Embankment, it is also known as the Lotus Bridge.
