Yangzhou University, abbreviated as YZU, is located in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province — a renowned historical and cultural city by the Yangtze River and the ancient Grand Canal. It is a key comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, the first in China to implement university mergers, and is hailed as a flagship of higher education reform in China. Its origins date back to 1902 with the establishment of Tongzhou Normal School by Mr. Zhang Jian, a prominent industrialist and educator in modern China. It is a century-old prestigious institution with a long history and outstanding reputation.

Yangzhou University has multiple campuses, but most visitors tour the Lotus Pond Campus, which lies at the very center of the university. This is due both to its geographical position — bordered by the Slender West Lake Campus and Wenhui Road Campus to the north, Jiangyang South Road Campus to the south, Yian Road Campus and Huaihai Road Campus to the east, and Jiangyang North Road Campus and Guangling College to the west — and because the university’s core administrative offices are located here.

The campus buildings primarily feature classic Huizhou-style architecture, along with scenic stone bridges and lotus reflections.
