Dahongqiao

Dahongqiao is a cultural relic protection unit of Yangzhou City.

“Yangzhou is wonderful, and first among its wonders is the Rainbow Bridge. The willows grow three feet tall in the rain, the cherries burst red at the sound of a flute, and everywhere painted boats come to rest.” This is the historically renowned Rainbow Bridge of Yangzhou. With its beautiful scenery, the bridge once attracted numerous scholars and poets who gathered here to discuss the world and refine their literary artistry, leaving behind many precious writings and touching stories. During the Kangxi era, Wang Shizhen wrote: “The Red Bridge soars across the water’s midst, with railings in a row and bends of red; at noon, painted boats glide beneath, and robes fragrant, people pass too swiftly.” This verse became especially popular, and even Emperor Qianlong composed poetry praising the scenery of the Rainbow Bridge.
