Zhongzhong Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Yangzhou.

Zhongzhong Temple

It is now a municipal-level cultural heritage site, located in Renfengli in the city center. The temple site is said to be the former location of the Wenxuan Tower of Crown Prince Zhaoming of the Liang Dynasty. The temple was first built during the Xianchun era of the Song Dynasty (1265–1274), with its main hall constructed during the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty, and further expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the 26th year of the Guangxu reign, a five-bay hall was erected, followed by the construction of the mountain gate in the 30th year, and during the Republican era, the Wenxuan Tower was elevated and rebuilt. The main hall features nanmu wood beams, and the Wenxuan Tower once housed over 5,000 volumes of the Buddhist canon, which were destroyed in a fire in 1992. It is now a venue for religious activities and sightseeing.
