Originally built during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, it was once the villa of Huang Luxian, an official of the Imperial Garden Bureau. Emperor Qianlong visited this site four times during his six southern tours. In the 27th year of Qianlong’s reign (1762), he climbed the tower and looked south at Chunbo Bridge, north at Changchun Bridge, and west at Yuban Bridge and Lotus Bridge. He then bestowed the name “Four Bridges Misty Rain” upon it and inscribed the garden as “Quyuan” (Garden of Charm). In the 3rd year of the Guangxu reign (1877), the Three Sages Shrine was rebuilt here to honor Ouyang Xiu, Su Dongpo, and Wang Shizhen. It was reconstructed on the original site in 1960. Facing west and situated to the east, the building covers a construction area of 97.6 square meters, has two stories, spans three bays, features a hip-and-gable roof with double eaves, and is surrounded by corridors on all sides, borrowing scenery from three directions. The platform in front of the tower is enclosed by white alum stone railings. Stone stairways are located on the east and west sides. To its south stands a fragmentary stele inscribed with the characters “Quyuan.”
