Since ancient times, China has been a country that reveres jade, holding a special affection for it. Chinese jade carving is an outstanding cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. Yangzhou is one of the key production areas of both ancient and modern jade artifacts in China and serves as a microcosm of the development of Chinese jade carving culture. The saying “Hetian jade, Yangzhou craftsmanship” is widely circulated in the industry. “Yangzhou jade carving,” with its unique traditional techniques, stands as an outstanding representative of Chinese jade carving and has been included by the State Council in the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage items.

To promote Yangzhou jade carving culture, inherit its craftsmanship, collect and display its finest works, explore the profound connotations and historical development of Yangzhou jade carving, and study the regional characteristics of Chinese jade culture, the Yangzhou Jade Factory, with the care and support of the Yangzhou municipal government, self-funded the establishment of the Jade Museum. This provides a fully equipped platform for the development of Yangzhou jade carving culture.

The Jade Museum covers a construction area of 2,875 m² and is divided into three exhibition areas: Ancient Jade, Jade Craftsmanship, and Modern Yangzhou Jade. It showcases the rich and colorful culture of Yangzhou jade through various forms including colored sculpture models, dioramas, ancient jades, modern jade masterpieces, jade materials, and antique replicas, as well as images and pictures. The exhibition halls are designed with a minimalist philosophy, rational spatial layout, and elegant visual effects to create a space that is expansive, comfortable, and quiet. They offer visitors a comprehensive and systematic basis for exploring the essence of jade, and for appreciating, collecting, wearing, and appraising it. The museum contributes to the continuous development of Yangzhou jade and the building of a culturally rich Yangzhou.

Since its establishment, the Yangzhou Jade Museum has attracted a large number of domestic and international visitors who have marveled at the exquisite and refined craftsmanship of Yangzhou jade, earning widespread acclaim and producing significant economic benefits.
