Exhibition Hall of Historical Materials on “The Communist Party of China in Yangzhou”

Located at No. 8 Fuxi Lane, Hanjiang District, Yangzhou, inside the Municipal Archives. The exhibition area covers 800 square meters and opened to the public in February 2016. It has become an important site for educating Party members, cadres, and the general public about the local history of the CPC in Yangzhou.

In the first half of 2013, the Yangzhou Municipal Committee, in accordance with the opinions of the Provincial Committee and the planning requirements for the construction of the Yangzhou Cultural and Museum City, decided to utilize the newly built exhibition hall after the renovation and expansion of the Municipal Archives to set up an exhibition hall dedicated to the local history of the CPC in Yangzhou. Accordingly, the Municipal Archives Bureau officially launched the related preparatory work. In particular, regarding the drafting of the exhibition script, multiple symposiums were held with the participation of local experts and scholars in history, Party history, and archives. Opinions were solicited on aspects such as the positioning of the exhibition content, the form of presentation, the collection of historical materials, and the desired exhibition effects. Once the exhibition script was finalized, it was promptly submitted to the relevant municipal leaders for review. Based on their feedback, the Municipal Party History Office and the Archives Bureau organized personnel to refine the content. In the second half of 2014, after the new exhibition script was completed, city leaders and experts in cultural relics, Party history, and archives were invited again for discussion and evaluation. Based on their suggestions, appropriate additions were made, including background information on the social conditions in Yangzhou prior to the establishment of the local CPC organization; the development of Party organizations during the revolutionary war years and the conduct of revolutionary struggles, as well as the tremendous changes in Yangzhou since the reform and opening-up under the Party's leadership, were highlighted as key exhibition themes; the entire exhibition content was thoroughly reviewed and appropriately adjusted according to the actual layout of the exhibition hall; the timeline covered by the exhibition was extended to the end of 2015.

After the modification of the exhibition script was completed, specific design work for the exhibition content, as well as bidding for the design and production of the exhibition, and construction of the physical facilities of the exhibition hall, were carried out. By February 2015, with the completion of the bidding process, the exhibition entered the installation and construction phase. According to the design plan, the main medium of the exhibition was historical photographic materials, supplemented by some physical archival items, utilizing panels, displays, sculptures, and multimedia to present a comprehensive reflection of the establishment of our city’s Party organizations and their leadership in the people’s revolutionary and construction achievements. The exhibition was divided into four parts: “Dark Nights Without Song,” “The Journey Through Flames,” “Hard Struggles to Build the Foundation,” and “Spring Tide Surging.” Through visiting the exhibition, visitors can see how, under the Party’s leadership, the people of Yangzhou fought bravely and achieved one victory after another against Japanese invaders and in overthrowing the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang, welcoming the liberation of Yangzhou and the whole country. After the liberation, especially since the reform and opening-up, Party organizations at all levels in Yangzhou have thoroughly implemented the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, adhered to the principle of economic development as the central task, vigorously developed the market economy, made new breakthroughs in various undertakings, and further strengthened Party building. In 2011, the Sixth Municipal Party Congress was held. The Municipal Committee, centered around the goals of “building Yangzhou into a famous city where ancient culture and modern civilization shine together” and “achieving a moderately prosperous society in all respects and building a new Yangzhou,” led the people of the entire city in united endeavor. The living standards of the people have continued to improve, and a new Yangzhou—prosperous, civilized, beautiful, harmonious, and law-based—has begun to take shape.

The final section of the exhibition provides dedicated spaces for various departments and units to conduct education on the Party Constitution and discipline, carry out learning activities such as “Two Studies, One Action,” as well as patriotism education for primary, middle, and high school students. These include special areas for studying the Party Constitution, renewing the oath of Party membership, and taking the oath of admission for new Party members, thereby expanding the functions and roles of the exhibition hall.

The “Glorious Journey—Photo and Historical Materials Exhibition of The Communist Party of China in Yangzhou” was completed in the exhibition layout by the end of 2015. After a trial run, it was officially opened to the public and has since received multiple group and individual visitors. On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Party, led by Comrade Xie Zhengyi, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Party member leaders from the city’s four leading bodies collectively visited the Yangzhou local Party history photo exhibition and renewed their Party membership oaths. They unanimously expressed their commitment to “stay true to our original aspiration and keep moving forward.”
