Nanjing Phoenix Well Scenic Area The Nanjing Phoenix Well Scenic Area is located within the Tianshengqiao Tourist Scenic Area, covering a total area of 31.4 hectares. On the east side of the Yanzi River lies an enclosed basin and clear pool, which is said to be the mass grave created during the excavation of the Yanzi River and is now named “Phoenix Well.”

The original Phoenix Well is said to have been dug out by Liu Bowen on the back of a phoenix. The current Phoenix Well was originally a small water-collecting basin on a hilltop. It was formed when the soil and rocks excavated from the Yanzi River blocked the outlet of this small basin. The water in the basin is crystal clear, shimmering under the sunlight, surrounded by lush, undulating hills, with farmhouses and wisps of cooking smoke dotting the lakeside below — a scene full of rich pastoral charm.

The main touring route stretches approximately 5,000 meters. There are over 10 scenic spots including Dragon Vein Ridge, Carp Stream, Phoenix Well, Phoenix Lake, Peach Blossom Island, Four Gardens, Bamboo Forest Landscape, and Phoenix Return Bridge. Sightseeing tools such as a miniature French-style train, electric carts, and pedal boats are available to take you around. You can go boating on the lake, slide on the grass, enjoy forest hunting, or fish under the willows — many activities await your choice, all brimming with natural charm.
