Legend has it that a beautiful phoenix, enchanted by the beauty of Shijiu Lake, chose to perch on Fengqi Mountain, from which the town derives its name. The town covers an area of 97.02 square kilometers, with a population of 53,000, and administers 11 village committees and 2 neighborhood committees.
