Meiyuan Hengshan Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Wuxi Meiyuan Hengshan Scenic Area is situated in the western suburbs of Wuxi City, on Dongshan, Hushan, and Hengshan Mountains. Built in 1912 by the famous national industrialists Rong Zongjing and Rong Desheng, it was named after the vast planting of plum trees at its inception. With Taihu Lake in front and Longshan Mountain behind, the area is adorned with plum blossoms against lush green hills, complemented by pavilions and towers. It is a renowned plum blossom viewing destination in the Jiangnan region. In the new century, Meiyuan Hengshan Scenic Area has evolved into a prominent tourist site integrating natural landscapes, cultural heritage, rare flowers, classical gardens, and leisure and fitness activities.

The scenic area currently spans 1,000 acres and is divided into three main zones: the Plum Blossom Zone themed around plum culture. It includes numerous historical sites related to the Rong family, such as Xixin Spring, Tianxin Platform, Nianqu Pagoda, Songbin Hall, and the Reading Area. There is also the Ancient Plum and Exotic Stone Garden, which combines ancient plum trees and rare stones with traditional Chinese garden architecture. Within this garden, you can find China’s only museum dedicated to plum blossom culture, the Suihan Thatched Cottage, the Lengyan Pavilion, and other structures. Strolling through, visitors can learn about the science of plum blossoms, appreciate the profound culture surrounding them, and experience the spiritual symbolism embodied by the flower.

The Garden Expo Park brings together natural and diverse garden landscapes, featuring elements such as windmills, suspension bridges, coffee houses, and churches. Exploring the area, you’ll encounter expansive lawns, towering camphor forests, dazzling perennial and bulb flowers, and tranquil water reflections—each contributing to a strong sense of exotic charm.

The Flower Stream Zone has introduced over 100 varieties of exotic flowers and plants, along with a massive rock landscape. Lush greenery and towering trees alternate with striking boulders, while babbling streams reflect the blue sky and white clouds, blending seamlessly with the surrounding mountains. This area masterfully fuses Eastern and Western environmental art, opening its arms like the earth itself to captivate countless visitors. It offers the joy of returning to nature, the enduring spirit of unyielding stone, and the inspiration found in the connection between the human heart and the mountain. Every visitor can feel the ingenuity of the designers.

Through years of continuous landscaping efforts, the scenic area has developed four major seasonal highlights: “Plum Blossom Viewing in Early Spring, Lotus Appreciation in Midsummer, Osmanthus Enjoyment in Golden Autumn, and Snow Walking in Deep Winter.” These create a harmonious ecological landscape where humans and nature coexist, offering a feeling of returning to and transcending nature.
