Three Kingdoms City Scenic Area

Located in the southwestern suburbs of Wuxi, Three Kingdoms City lies to the west of Qinglong Mountain and borders Taihu Lake to the north, facing the famous tourist destinations of Turtle Head Isle and the Three Mountains across the water. "Three Kingdoms City" was built and named by China Central Television (CCTV) for the production of the TV series "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." Covering an area of 35 hectares, it officially opened as a new film and television tourism attraction of Wuxi Taihu Film and Television City on August 20, 1994. Within "Three Kingdoms City," large-scale attractions with Han Dynasty architectural styles were constructed, including the "Palace of the King of Wu," "Ganlu Temple," "Cao Camp Water Fortress," "Seven-Star Altar," "Beacon Tower," and "Yuan Gate," covering a total floor area of 85,000 square meters. The site also features over twenty replica ancient warships. It was here that the drama crew filmed some of the most exciting scenes of the series, such as "Liu Bei's Marriage Alliance," "The Burning of Red Cliffs," "Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats," and "Zhuge Liang Praying for the Wind." In addition, the scenic area has added scenes like the "Oath of the Peach Garden," an arena, and the Eight Trigrams Formation, as well as interactive activities such as "Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats," ancient boat rides, lakeside bathing, horse riding, and song and dance performances. The entire Three Kingdoms City scenic area boasts a majestic atmosphere and profound historical significance. Strolling through it, every gate and stone seems to whisper stories of the turbulent era filled with dramatic events. Three Kingdoms City is a dual-purpose site primarily dedicated to film and television production while also serving tourism, attracting numerous visitors from around the world.

The grand and imposing gate tower of Three Kingdoms City features fluttering banners and is flanked by two mythical beasts, Tianlu and Pixie, on the square, adding to the solemnity and dignity of the entrance. This was the filming location of the scene in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" where Zhuge Liang ingeniously used the Empty Fort Strategy to repel Sima Yi’s hundreds of thousands of troops. Hidden behind three gate towers lies the massive Cao Camp, which includes both land and water fortifications. Comprising Cao Cao’s Command Platform, the gate towers, four watchtowers, and a large warship, this area served as the filming site for scenes such as "The Burning of Red Cliffs," "Drinking Wine While Pointing a Lance," and "Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats." On either side of Cao Cao’s Command Platform stand war drums, faintly echoing the majesty of the legendary warlord. Standing by the gate and looking out, one can’t help but imagine the countless heroes of the turbulent Three Kingdoms era, who ultimately became immortal figures in China’s history, revered by generations to come, as their stories dissolved into the rolling waves of the Yangtze River.

As visitors stroll through the scenic area, they can also enjoy a variety of rich and exciting performance programs based on key plots from "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," such as "The Three Heroes Battle Lu Bu," "Liu Bei’s Marriage Alliance," "The Burning of Red Cliffs," "The Empty Fort Strategy," and "The Battle of Changban Slope." Here, you can fully immerse yourself in the historical ambiance of warring lords and competing heroes. After exploring this magnificent historical panorama from over 1,700 years ago, visitors can relax at the sandy lakeside beach or enjoy a leisurely drink at the "Sun Shangxiang Tavern," gazing out the window and taking a moment to rest. The entire Three Kingdoms attraction is grand and majestic, with an ancient and dignified charm.
