Shuanghong Garden

Shuanghong Garden is located at the north end of Baojie Bridge on Huanhu Road, Binhu District, Wuxi City. The garden derives its name from the "Twin Rainbows over Baojie," hence the plaque above the gate was inscribed by Mr. Rong Zhiqiang. It is also a celebrated tale that three generations of the Rong family—grandfather, father, and son—each contributed calligraphy for the bridge name, the scenic spot name, and the garden name respectively.

The garden was first built in 1999 and opened to the public on February 1, 2000. Covering an area of 45 mu, it includes approximately 4,000 square meters of water surface. Originally, this site was reserved for the construction of campus facilities for Wuxi’s first university—the National Studies College—but the project was never realized. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the area was briefly used as a nursery under the administration of Li Garden. In the early 1980s, according to the General Plan for the Taihu National Key Scenic Area, plans were made to develop a scenic attraction centered around the legendary love story of Fan Li and Xi Shi. After several rounds of planning adjustments, the dream was finally realized at the turn of the century. The garden was designed under the direction of senior architect Mr. Li Zheng, and constructed by Wuxi Classical Garden and Architecture Company, with a total investment of over ten million yuan.

The charm of the garden lies in its clever use of the original terrain and vegetation, integrating with the surrounding environment and highlighting its water features in a way that suits the local conditions—all themed around the concept of "fish." The architecture combines the graceful and delicate style of the Jiangnan water towns with modern elements. The color scheme, based on blue tiles and white walls, is bright yet elegant, simple and fresh, blending harmoniously with the blue sky, white clouds, distant mountains, nearby waters, lush trees, green hills, blooming flowers, and green grass.
