Lihu Water Residence Garden

The Water Residence Garden is located on the north bank of Jincheng Bay. It features attractions such as the Gaozi Water Residence architectural complex, a landmark sail sculpture, lakeside pavilions, stone-step lawns, and boardwalk docks. The Gaozi Water Residence is a memorial garden complex built to commemorate Gao Panlong, a renowned Ming Dynasty philosopher, statesman, and scholar who resigned from office, returned to his hometown, and lived in seclusion by Lihu Lake for nearly 30 years.

The Water Residence Garden includes ten scenic spots: the Wuke Tower, a stone statue of Gao Panlong, the Gaozi Calligraphy and Painting Stele Corridor, the Gaozi Life and Culture Wall, the Gaozi Memorial Monument, Yuepo Terrace, Jingyi Pavilion, Yuncong Pavilion, and the Gao Feng Lakeside Pavilion.

In front of the Wuke Tower in the garden stands a white marble seated statue of Gao Panlong. The second floor houses the Gao Panlong Memorial Hall, which systematically and comprehensively presents his life through a wealth of historical materials. Along the garden paths are stone steles inscribed with commemorative inscriptions, poems, and couplets honoring Gaozi. The Gaozi Water Residence was completed and opened to the public in 2006. It is a memorial garden that blends cultural landscapes with picturesque gardens and waterscapes, offering a tranquil and beautiful setting. It serves as an ideal place for locals to relax, as well as a great spot to learn about the political thoughts, cultural achievements, and noble character of Wuxi’s esteemed figure, Gao Panlong.
