Former Residence of Wang Kunlun

The former residence of Wang Kunlun is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Wang Kunlun, also known as "Qishierfeng Shan Guan" (Seventy-Two Peaks Mountain Villa), is located within the current Yuantouzhu Park in Wuxi City. Originally, it was one of the buildings in the Taihu Villa, which was constructed by Wang Kunlun’s father, Wang Xinru, in 1927. After Wang Kunlun passed away in 1985, the people of Wuxi dedicated this site to commemorating this renowned political activist who was both a veteran of the Kuomintang and a fighter for communism. At that time, Deng Yingchao, then Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, personally inscribed the name “Former Residence of Wang Kunlun.”

His former residence was originally located in Yao Bao Lane within Wuxi's old city district, a small standalone Western-style house built by his father, Wang Xinru. Since the building had long been rented out by the housing authority to several residents and could not be vacated and restored to its original state in the short term, the Wuxi Municipal Government decided to opt for an easier solution. They designated the "Seventy-Two Peaks Mountain Villa" (Qishierfeng Shanguan) inside the former Wang family estate, "Taihu Villa," as his memorial home. This was where Wang Kunlun often lived, studied, and engaged in revolutionary activities during his youth. The structure features six bays in width, covering an area of over 100 square meters, and is built in a hip-and-gable style with corridors on three sides. It faces the vast expanse of Taihu Lake to the south and is backed by lush cypress trees to the north, offering a tranquil and elegant environment. The horizontal plaque inscribed with "Seventy-Two Peaks Mountain Villa" was personally written by Hu Hanmin, a founding figure of the Kuomintang. In the foyer, in front of a purplish-red velvet canopy, stands a bronze bust of Wang Kunlun. The memorial home currently hosts an exhibition titled "Exhibition on the Life and Deeds of Wang Kunlun," which is open to visitors for viewing and commemoration.
