Taihu Workers' Sanatorium

Taihu Workers' Sanatorium is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.

Taihu Workers' Sanatorium is located on Zhongdun Mountain in Binhu District. Originally a small island with a main peak standing 39.1 meters above sea level, it covers an area of approximately 300 acres, surrounded by water on all sides. It connects to Yuantouzhu Park via a bridge to the southeast, while to the north, across the lake, lie scenic spots such as Guanshe Mountain, Xiaojishan, and Dajishan. With its picturesque landscape of clear waters and lush mountains, it is a rare leisure and convalescence destination. The sanatorium was designed and built in 1951 by the Architectural Engineering Department of the Southern Jiangsu Enterprises Company. Its architectural style draws inspiration from traditional northern Chinese official buildings in terms of form and decorative patterns, featuring colored glazed tiles on the roof that blend harmoniously with the surrounding lakes and mountains. All buildings were completed in 1952. The sanatorium consists of three main buildings constructed in the 1950s. Buildings No. 1 and No. 2 were built in 1952, and Building No. 3 in 1956. There are also auxiliary structures including a sports and physiotherapy building, staff dormitories, kitchens, pump rooms, and boiler rooms. All are distributed around the lake and along the mountain, built in harmony with the terrain. Although nearly sixty years have passed, the functionality of the buildings remains unchanged, and their preservation condition is excellent.

On December 19, 2011, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province designated it as a seventh batch provincial-level cultural heritage site.
