Former Residence of Rong Desheng in Wuxi

The Former Residence of Rong Desheng in Wuxi is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The former residence of Rong Desheng is located at No. 16 and No. 16-1 Jiankang Lane, Jiankang Road, Chong’an District, Wuxi. Originally the home of Li Guowei, the eldest son-in-law of Rong Desheng, it was built in the early years of the Republic of China and is a Western-style garden villa. The residence originally included a gatehouse, main building, wing rooms, auxiliary buildings, a tennis court, front and rear gardens, and enclosing walls. Rong Desheng lived here for a long time in his later years until he passed away in July 1952. Rong Desheng (1875–1952), whose given name was Zongquan, courtesy name Desheng, and literary name Lenuo Jushi, was a native of Wuxi. Together with his elder brother Rong Zongjing, he was a renowned industrial and commercial entrepreneur in modern times. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a member of the East China Military and Political Committee, and deputy director of the Suzhong Administrative Office. Around 1949, many important activities of patriotic industrial and commercial figures in Wuxi were conducted here. In 2006, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government.

On June 5, 2006, the Former Residence of Rong Desheng in Wuxi was announced as part of the sixth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
