Zhenjiang Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

Zhenjiang Museum is a comprehensive local history and art museum, established in 1958. It was renovated from the former site of the British Consulate, covering an area of 29,000 square meters. Five East Indian-style buildings are built along the hillside in a well-spaced layout. In 1995, a 1,780-square-meter cultural relics storage facility was built, and the building area reached 3,500 square meters. In November 1996, it was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the State Council. The museum houses nearly 30,000 cultural relics from primitive society to the Ming and Qing dynasties, including 82 first-grade relics (sets) and 317 second-grade relics (sets). Among them, the bronze wares of the Wu Kingdom, celadon ceramics of the Six Dynasties, gold and silverware of the Tang Dynasty, silk garments of the Song Dynasty, and the artworks of the Jingjiang School are particularly distinctive.

Zhenjiang Museum currently has 31 employees, 23 of whom hold associate degrees or higher; 7 have senior professional titles, and 19 have intermediate or junior titles, with 84% of staff holding qualifications. The museum hosts about 15 exhibitions annually and receives over 100,000 visitors. Its research work has achieved remarkable results. The project “Remote Sensing Archaeological Study of Shang-Zhou Platform-shaped Sites and Tumulus Tombs in the Zhenjiang Area” won the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the National Cultural Heritage Administration. “Comprehensive Research on Bronzes of the Wu Kingdom” received the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the First Prize from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture. The museum’s urban archaeology work has been commended multiple times by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and in 2001, it participated in the “Three Gorges Archaeological Campaign.”

Zhenjiang Museum is an outstanding museum in Jiangsu Province. It is recognized as a patriotic education base by the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee, a moral education base for primary and secondary schools by the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Zhenjiang Municipal Government, a Civilized Unit of Zhenjiang City, an Advanced Tourism Unit of Zhenjiang City, and an Advanced Unit in Scientific and Technological Progress of Zhenjiang City.
