The Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge is an important part of Jiangsu Province’s “four verticals, four horizontals and four connectors” highway framework and a major cross-Yangtze crossing. It is composed of nine sections: the north approach, north approach viaduct, north approach bridge, north channel cable-stayed bridge, Shiyeyuzhou interchange, south channel suspension bridge, south approach bridge, south approach, and the south approach extension.

The total length of the project is 35.66 kilometers (with the south extension being 12 kilometers), and within Zhenjiang's jurisdiction, it spans 21.749 kilometers, accounting for 61% of the total length. Within this, the section of the main bridge in Zhenjiang covers 3.841 kilometers, making up 74% of the total span of the main bridge.

The main span of the south channel suspension bridge is 1,490 meters, making it currently the longest of its kind in China and the third longest in the world. The clearance height under the suspension bridge is 50 meters—allowing the passage of 50,000-ton cargo ships—while that of the cable-stayed bridge is 18 meters.

It can be said that the Runyang Yangtze River Highway Bridge is the first modern, composite super-large bridge that combines rigid and flexible structures over the Yangtze River. After its completion, east-west transportation in Zhenjiang has been further enhanced, while north-south traffic has achieved a major breakthrough. The bridge and its south approach expressway form a “golden cross” land passage together with the Shanghai–Nanjing Expressway within Zhenjiang.
