Former Site of Zhongshi Girls' School

The former site of Zhongshi Girls' School is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Zhongshi Girls' School in Zhenjiang was established in 1884 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and was the earliest girls' school in the Yangtze River basin. Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck once studied and taught here. It was a cherished homeland she never forgot and was hailed as the "Pioneer of Southern Women's Education" and the "Vanguard of Girls' Schools." In 1952, it became a public school and was renamed "Zhenjiang No. 2 Middle School," admitting both boys and girls. In 2004, it also hung the plaque of "Mao Yisheng Middle School." In 2013, the girls' school was reopened under the name "Zhenjiang Zhongshi Girls' Middle School," becoming a full-time senior high school directly under the Zhenjiang Municipal Education Bureau. The reopening of the girls' school has positioned it once again at the forefront of educational reform in the new century, as it explores its own path of development.

In March 2019, the former site of Zhongshi Girls' School was included in the eighth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangsu Province.
