The Hongze Farm Bird Nature Reserve is located in the southeast of Sihong County, in the lower reaches of the Xuhong River and the Andong River, covering a total area of 5.22 square kilometers, with a core zone of 58.4 hectares. In 2001, it was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government to be included in the Hongze Lake Wetland Upgraded Nature Reserve. The bird reserve experiences significant monsoons, with a mild climate and abundant sunlight. The wetland has a constant water depth of 0.6 meters, and the water is clear and transparent.

The area boasts rich and diverse species, making it an ideal habitat for migratory and resident birds. The reserve contains over 110 plant species and 194 bird species from 44 families across 15 orders, accounting for more than half of Jiangsu Province’s avian resources. Among them, 43 species are resident birds, 100 are migratory birds (41 summer migratory birds and 59 winter migratory birds), and 51 are transient birds. Birds are predominantly herons, especially cattle egrets, pond herons, grey herons, and intermediate egrets. Recently, rare bird species such as the great bustard, white stork, and Siberian accentor have also been discovered here.
