Lingcheng Ruins

The Lingcheng Ruins are a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

Located 1 kilometer from Shiji, which is 8 kilometers from Lingcheng. The ruins stretch approximately 500 meters from east to west and about 300 meters from north to south, covering an area of over 150,000 square meters. They were discovered in 1962 during a field archaeological survey conducted by Yin Huanzhang and others from the Nanjing Museum, and were included in the seventh batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units in 2011.

Starting in April 2017, the Nanjing Museum, in collaboration with the Suqian City Museum and the Siyang County Museum, conducted exploration and excavation at the site until the end of September, lasting over five months. The excavation covered an area of more than 1,700 square meters, uncovering ancient city walls and piles of roof tiles within the city. Artifacts unearthed include roof tiles, tubular tiles, tile ends, decorative bricks, pottery jars, porcelain bowls, as well as a large number of pottery fragments. The site has been preliminarily identified as the ancient ruins of Lingcheng, the capital of the Sishui Kingdom—one of the feudal states of the Han Dynasty—dating back over 2,000 years. This provides valuable physical evidence for studying the layout of the ancient Lingcheng city, the structure of its city walls, and the culture of the Han Dynasty feudal states.
