Taohuawu Park

Taohuawu Park (formerly known as Peach Blossom Island) is located in the northeastern part of [the city]. Dating back to the Ming and Jin dynasties, floods and breaches in the Yellow River caused the river to flow through Huaiyin, eroding the land into an island-like shape. It now covers an area of about 300 acres. In spring, peach blossoms blanket the area, radiant as rosy clouds, fragrant and splendid. Sturdy, ancient locust trees grow wildly, adorning the place into a beautiful natural landscape. Many visitors come here for spring outings to appreciate the wonders of nature and enjoy sightseeing.

Since 1996, the development of the Taohuawu scenic area has been initiated, with nearly 7 million yuan invested to date. The area has now been developed to include Peach Fairy Square, the Rustic Tea House, the Peach Destiny Exhibition Hall, the suspension bridge at the east entrance, rockwork and timber-style mountain-waterfalls, the Peach Blossom Stream agritainment spot, a large musical waterwheel, and the west entrance attraction designed in the shape of a peach. These facilities aim to meet the leisure and sightseeing needs of local residents. In recent years, the Taohuawu scenic area has also hosted over 20 receptions for central and provincial leaders, including Vice Chairman Xu Jialu of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, as well as delegations from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, Japan, and other international guests. Vice Chairman Xu Jialu even inscribed the nameplate for Taohuawu and spontaneously composed a poem: “Since ancient times, peach blossoms have rivaled human beauty; I liken myself to the heart behind the peach. The arrival of an elm tree is wondrous too — the beautiful new Huaiyin on Peach Blossom Island.” The construction project for Taohuawu Park was listed as an official project under item 18 of the municipal government's Document No. 31 in 2000. It was scheduled to be implemented in three years with nine sub-projects and an investment of 30 million yuan, aiming to apply for status as a provincial-level agricultural demonstration and sightseeing park upon completion. To date, the main road, west entrance gate, and lake island have been completed.

When the peach blossoms are in full bloom, the sea of blossoms and throngs of visitors create a breathtaking scene of vibrant colors that delight the soul. The park’s landscape design makes use of the original terrain, resulting in a rustic yet lively environment — a true gem for leisure, entertainment, and sightseeing.
