Riding an elevator to enjoy a canyon — this is the latest way to sightsee in Hubei, China. Would you like to give it a try? According toLonely Planet, the world’s longest sightseeing elevator, located in Enshi Grand Canyon, Hubei Province, China, opened last week. The entire elevator is built along the mountain terrain in a “Σ” shape. From afar, it resembles a dragon lying in the wild hills, radiating impressive presence, allowing travelers to admire the magnificence of the canyon through the slow ride.

Some may not find riding an elevator particularly exciting, but when it’s combined with scenic views, it seems quite fitting. This elevator is situated in the Qixingzhai Scenic Area, stretching 688 meters in length, offering passengers lush valleys and mountain vistas.

The elevator can accommodate around 7,000 people per hour and is expected to carry 600,000 passengers annually. Recently, new attractions in China have been quite astonishing — take Zhangjiajie Canyon’s glass bridge, which hovers about 300 meters (10 stories) above the ground. However, whether travelers are willing to share these new attractions — known for their size and length — with thousands of others is a matter of personal preference.

Enshi Grand Canyon is located at the junction of Hunan, Chongqing, and Hubei provinces in China. It is a national 5A-level tourist attraction and considered the most beautiful section of the Qingjiang River basin. Dubbed the most stunning grand canyon in the world, it features a 10,000-meter-long painted cliff corridor, towering waterfalls, hundreds of solitary peaks, and deep, serene ravines stretching for miles. As a spectacular world geological wonder, it is said to rival the Grand Canyon in the United States.
