Kaga-ya’s Royal War Drum Performance – A Breathtaking Japanese National Treasure Show

The spirited and outstanding performance by the Zhishui Camp Han Drum Team earned enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Beitou Hot Spring Hotel Nikko Kaga-ya is celebrating its sixth anniversary and has been committed to promoting cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. It specially invited the “Royal War Drums” to perform in Taiwan. The Royal War Drums originated from the Noto Peninsula in Japan, which is also where the Kaga-ya is located. During Japan’s turbulent wartime period, the legendary general Uesugi Kenshin suffered only two defeats in seventy battles—one of them occurred during his attack on the Noto Peninsula. At that time, unarmed farmers and fishermen used the sounds of drumbeats, low growls, and fearsome demon masks to scare off Uesugi Kenshin’s army. The Royal War Drums have since been passed down through generations and are now recognized as an Intangible Cultural Asset of Ishikawa Prefecture.

The members of the Royal War Drums gave an energetic live performance, putting their all into striking the drums forcefully while unleashing passionate roars and deep chants, leaving the audience amazed. Everyone watched this rare and spectacular show in awe and held their breath. Those who wish to see it should seize the opportunity to witness this Japanese national treasure-level performance. From April 29 to May 1, shows are held every evening at 18:00 on the sixth floor, Golden Nyang Yuan, at Beitou Nikko Kaga-ya. Visitors who make purchases at Beitou Kaga-ya (such as soaking in hot springs, dining, or staying overnight) can watch the performance on the same day.
