A "hidden paradise" in the city—meet Taiwan blue magpies at Chongyang Park!

Sunlight filters through the leaves, and as you stroll along Zhong'ai Creek, you’re surrounded by shady trees and the sounds of birds chirping and insects humming. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the urban area, this place is truly a "hidden paradise" in Beitou. The section of Zhong'ai Creek that runs through Chongyang Park has experienced some landslides, prompting the Water Resources Bureau to first conduct an ecological survey before proceeding with engineering designs based on the findings. Additionally, the bureau plans to organize family-friendly activities during the construction period to encourage public participation in removing invasive species from the ecological pond.

Zhong'ai Creek (also known as Xiaoye Stream) originates from Dangfeng Mountain, flows through Chongyang Park and Qingjiang Elementary School in Beitou District, and eventually merges into Huanggang Creek. Among these, the "Dingpi Ecological Pond" in Chongyang Park is rich in ecological diversity, including conservation plants such as the Chinese buttonwood—which is classified as "extinct in the wild"—as well as Taiwan water lily and willow-leaved waterdropwort. Of the 53 species of water lilies worldwide, only the Taiwan water lily is found in Taiwan’s subtropical and tropical regions, marking the southernmost boundary of its distribution. This small park is home to a variety of species, making it a true hidden treasure. In the sky above, you can often spot collared owlets, brown shrikes, and Taiwan blue magpies. Occasionally, you may even see the majestic crested goshawk soaring overhead—a delightful surprise. Visitors are welcome to come here on weekends for a rich and rewarding eco-adventure.
