Dongping National Forest Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Introduction

Located in the central part of Chongming Island, Dongping National Forest Park boasts lush trees and fresh air, far from the noise of the urban area. You can gather a few friends for a barbecue here, or rent a bicycle to cycle around the park. Summer is an especially great time to escape the heat. For larger groups, you can also play paintball; children can enjoy amusement rides such as bumper cars and carousel.

The forest park has two entrances: the main entrance at Gate 1 in the south and Gate 2 in the southwest, both of which provide access. The park is quite large, so many visitors choose to rent bicycles at the entrance—single bikes cost 10 RMB per hour (20 RMB for tandem bikes), which is quite affordable. Cycling around the entire park usually takes about two hours. Alternatively, you can take an electric sightseeing car (30 RMB per person) or a small train (20 RMB per person), both of which are time-saving and labor-saving options.

Entering through Gate 1, most entertainment facilities and experience activities are located on the right-hand side, including paintball shooting, archery, horse riding, go-karting, grass skiing, as well as water activities like pedal boats and water walking balls. The park also features nurseries such as osmanthus gardens, plum blossom gardens, cherry blossom gardens, bamboo gardens, and maple gardens, offering various flowers and plants to admire in different seasons. On the western side of the park, the sika deer farm houses both free-range and enclosed deer, where children can feed the deer by hand—an especially fun activity.

Deep within the park, there are barbecue areas and camping bases. Having a self-service barbecue in the forest is a unique experience. You can bring your own ingredients or purchase them at the barbecue area. The park also offers rentals for items like grills, but it's best to avoid holidays when the barbecue area gets very crowded. You can also bring a tent to relax on the large lawn or even spend the night in the camping area to experience life in the wild. Tents and sleeping bags are available for rent in the park.

1. By Car: Shanghai Pudong – Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel and Bridge – Chenhai Highway – Panlong Highway – Beiyan Highway – Dongping National Forest Park

2. By Bus

① There is a bus stop (Forest Park Station) right at the main entrance of the forest park. Buses NanDong Line and NanJiang Line stop here. You can take the NanDong Line from Nanshi Bus Station in Chengqiao Town, Chongming, with a journey of about 50 minutes.

② From downtown Shanghai, you can take Metro Line 1 to Wenshui Road Gonghexin Road, then transfer to the Shen-Chong Line 3 bus to Chengqiao Town Nanshi Bus Station, and then switch to the NanDong Line or NanJiang Line to reach the park.
